mixed media

I did this piece as a demonstration project in the mixed media class  I teach when we were studying the works of Romare Bearden.  It is done in the artist’s style of cultural and family references and pieced together faces.  I used an old photograph of my husband’s father’s family which was comprised of 9 children.  Each person is a composite of two or three brothers and sisters.  The family photograph was taken in Russia in the early 1900s.  I wanted to reflect the richness of the Jewish culture.

This piece was juried into the 2014 National Collage Society show which will be exhibited at the gallery of Metropolitan State University in the Santa Fe Arts District in Denver, Colorado in November.

It is 20 x 21 inches on watercolor paper and is matted and framed.  It is part of my collection and is not for sale.
